Short Canyon
Short Canyon is located in the Molen Reef Mountains west of the small town of Moore. Getting to the mouth of the canyon requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle. One's vehicle and confidence determine how far up the canyon one can drive. We were able to park about a mile before where Short Canyon and John McDonald Hole converge. However, while in the canyon, we did see an RZR OHV that was able to drive much further into the canyon. There are several panels in the canyon, most of which are high on the cliff walls. We found several panels, but I've seen photos of several other panels that we couldn't find. I believe the panels we didn't find are against the base of the cliff faces. Getting to the cliff base requires a bit of scrambling up some pretty steep terrain.
We suggest those who want to explore Short Canyon plan on some pretty strenuous hiking and several hours. When we go again, I think we'll plan on spending an entire day in the canyon and its tributary canyons.
