Coyote Placing the Stars
Coyote placing the stars is one of the most spectacular petroglyph panels in Nine Mile Canyon and one of the easiest to find. However, you will need binoculars, a spotting scope, or a telephoto lens to see most panels. The following photos were taken using zoom lenses with a focal length of 180mm to 560mm.
Coming from Wellington, the panels are marked by a sign about 400 feet past the junction of Nine Mile Canyon and Harmon Canyon Roads. There is a fair amount of parking on the south side of the road, but it can fill up quickly if you’re visiting on a particularly busy day. There is a sighting device by the sign to show you the general area of the main panel. Just look through the tube.
However, don’t limit yourself to just the main attraction. The following photos were taken from about 200 feet west of the sighting device to about 200 feet east. The panels are found at nearly every elevation from the road. Some are very busy, while others have only a few petroglyphs.

This panel is to the left of the main panel at about the same height from ground level.
This is the main panel.
Compare the animal (sheep) at center left with the straight ears, curled tail, and appears to be running with one at the Moab Golf Course.
We're not sure what this is. I think it's a bird. The notches on the edge of the rock are interesting.
